At a time when the war with Iran remains unsettled, and likely will remain so unless we succumb
to its demands, billions of dollars in military spending, at the expense of American taxpayers,
may ultimately be wasted.
Another billion, perhaps even trillions, will be passed on to businesses and consumers around
the world as any disruption or chokehold in the Strait of Hormuz cuts off the flow of oil.
In Europe, another unprecedented heat wave has already claimed more than a thousand lives,
with the toll continuing to rise.
Once again, the predictable wildfire season has begun in earnest across the West, while more
and more people throughout the country suffer from extreme heat domes, all widely attributed to
the effects of climate change.
As the Colorado River moves closer to drying up because of diminishing snowpack in the Rocky
Mountains, the magnificent white peaks of the Alps reveal more exposed rock with each passing
year.
How ironic that the very conflict and stalled negotiations with a fanatical nation of *lunatics are
creating so much havoc for our economies, while at the same time, the very thing we crave is
slowly killing us.
My point is not to be misunderstood as either a political or an environmental statement. Rather, I
present this as a philosophical paradox.
